The Factory: Playwriting Basics with Lydia Blaisdell will take place on Tuesday, October 7th from 7 to 8:30 pm in the Workshop Gallery at Ball & Socket Arts.
Always been curious about writing plays but don't know where to start? Want to improve the dialogue in your writing more generally? Join this intro workshop to go over some broad techniques and exercises to write theatrical works with more specificity. No experience necessary. Novices and experienced writers are welcome.

About the Instructor:
Lydia is an affiliated artist with New Georges. She holds an MFA in Writing from the Michener Center for Writers and is an alumnus of the OBIE-award winning playwright's group YOUNGBLOOD at EST (Ensemble Studio Theater). She has been an artist-in-residence at Yaddo, Marble House Project, and Ucross.
Most recently, her meta-theatrical take on a historic love triangle, gerstl took the easy way out, was part of the final Ice Factory Festival at the New Ohio Theatre in New York City, produced by Notch Theatre Company, directed by Ashley Olive Teague.
Her solo work, She Buried the Pistol, premiered at the Cincy Fringe in 2018 directed by Hannah Wolf, and went on to a production in the World Without Walls Festival hosted by La Jolla Playhouse and produced by the Hearth (both iterations directed by Hannah J. Wolf).
Lydia was awarded the Visionary Playwright Commission from Theater Masters in 2018. Her play, The Last Great American Bear Hunt, was a finalist for the O’Neill National Playwrights Conference (2016). Her play, The Silent Woman, won the 2015 Kentucky Women Writers Conference Prize and has made Honorable Mention on the 2016 Kilroy’s List. Her immersive solo adventure piece, Bear Eats Bear, has toured to Brooklyn, Toronto, Charlotte, Minneapolis, and Austin. Her short plays have been performed in Aspen, Austin, Lake George, NYC, and Paris, France. Her short, Donna's First Brazilian, is published and licensed by Samuel French, Inc.
